Here's A Detailed Look at the 2019 Ford Flex

The 2019 Ford Flex is known for its incredible comfort and utility features. Are you a fan of the station wagon? The traditional version may not be available, but this model comes near and is an appealing SUV. The SUV is known for balancing utility and the cost factor that forms the basis of your decisions. Understandably, it is aging, and there is a need for a redesign, but both the interior and exterior design and style only add to its beauty and comfort levels.

Performance of the engines

The Ford Flex has two V6 engines and has a 3.5 liter EcoBoost engine. The base engine can easily reach 287 HP and has a maximum rating of 365 HP. The max torque is 350 pound-feet. On the test track, the engine readily powered to 60 mph within 6.2 seconds. Designed like the traditional SUV, it ensures an enhanced driving experience.

The engine is the standard with an all-wheel drive and provides full acceleration thrust irrespective of the cabin's load and number of passengers. While SUVs are known to be bulky, this vehicle is easily maneuverable. The ride is generally smooth, but on gravel, it can be jittery for the occupants.  The steering is smooth, and the body roll is controllable.

The regal interiors

It is a six-to-seven-seater SUV, and it depends on whether you get a bench seat in the second row. There is adequate sitting space for adults, but the third row can be tight for some. However, you will need additional cushioning for long drives.

You can equip the cabin with several luxuries, but the ones that come with the SUV are standard ones. The base model does not have a touchscreen too. The infotainment system comes with middle and top models. The Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capabilities are available too.

Adequate room for occupants

Most SUVs are cramped for space. The owner would prefer to have adequate room for the luggage and passengers when they are out on holiday. You can opt for the bucket seat or a bench seat in the second row. Based on the choice by the owner, the Ford Flex can seat six or seven passengers.

The third row has average legroom of 33.3 inches that could be below par for some passengers. When the third row is folded, it can lead to an additional 43.2 cu. ft. However, it can hold around 20 pounds of cargo behind the third row.

Reliability and Safety Ratings

The Ford Flex received a “Good” rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). It also received the rating “Acceptable” in the small overlap front validation for the driver’s side. However, the headlights remain one of the drawbacks. It also received the lowest rating from IIHS for the Basic variant for the front crash prevention system. It received a rating of four from a maximum of five from National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Comfort and style

It is available in nine colors, viz. Stone Gray, Agate Black, Burgundy Velvet Metallic Tinted Clearcoat, Ruby Red Metallic Tinted Clearcoat, Magnetic, Blue, Oxford White, White Platinum Metallic Tri-coat, and Ingot Silver. The height of the SUV is adequate that can provide optimal front view for the driver. The rear and front suspension have stabilizer bars that can be suitable for curvy roads.

It may not have the most elegant look, but it has a personality of its own. The interior is the perfect contrast to the regal interiors. The machine-printed aluminum wheels and the leather upholstery add to its looks. The steering wheel is leather-wrapped too.

Pros

·        The V6 engine injects lots of traction and power. It is easy to drive too.

·        The spacious interior is ideal for storing cargo, and the seating mechanism is comfortable for long trips.

·        The design and style are fantastic for its class.

·        The seats are at the optimal height, and the doors open wide to help get out.

·        The driver's view is excellent, and rear vision is enhanced with a camera. The side mirrors are large enough for adequate coverage.

Cons

·        Limited safety features vis-à-vis its peers and few of the controls are difficult to use.

·        The braking and steering don’t score high against its rivals. It isn’t enjoyable for the driver.

·        The engine is louder, and the comfort levels are below par too.

·        The interior is affected by horrible touch panel controls.

Conclusion

The Ford Flex is charged with two engines, but its regal looks are affected by a boxy shape. It has adequate space for its passengers and cargo. However, its peers score higher on comfort and design. The car also does not have sufficient safety gear and has a low mileage too. The design is a bit mid-century that adds to its elegance.
